It is a pleasant walk from the Visitor Centre to the Siq, but unfortunately, no shade on a hot day.

A Triclinium is a room with three benches used for memorial feasts for the dead.

It was the tradition to have a Triclinium also carved into the nearby rock. Here the Obelisk Tomb has unusual carvings reminiscent of Egyptian Pyramids.

When we were driving out of Petra, we stopped at a look-out point overlooking the entrance to Petra. I had to zoom in to get this picture of the Djinn Blocks in the Outer Siq.

The deep, narrow winding gorge, called the Siq, is nearly a mile long. There are dramatic vistas such as this all along the way.

Along the base of the walls of the gorge are the original Nabatean drainage systems. The control and conservation of water is obviously essential in this climate.

Donkeys & carts were available for those too tired to walk along the Siq.

No matter how many pictures you have seen, you cannot be blasé about this scene.

It really is one of the most iconic ancient views on the planet and evokes the spirit of exploration like none other.

This view is a surprise, as after the long trek down the Siq, there is nothing to hint that it is just round the next bend.
